Students of the Course of Study in Ship Conduct at Parthenope University, accompanied by Coordinator Prof. Salvatore Gaglione and professors Silvio Del Pizzo, Silvia Pennino, and Vincenzo Piscopo, visited the MSC Training Center in Sorrento yesterday. During the day, the students were able to attend training sessions led by Leonardo Massa, vice president Southern Europe and managing director Italy of MSC Cruises, and Marco Maresca, managing director of MSC Crew Services, who explained to the students the activities and operational details useful for all those who intend to work aboard cruise ships, including the now important issues related to environmental sustainability. After the testimonies of the two managers, Fortuna Izzo from the talent acquisition team of MSC Cruises also intervened to tell the students about life on board, also discussing topics such as diversity and inclusivity, since aboard the ships work people from over 70 different nationalities. The day then continued with a test of the navigation simulator present within the structure, which is used daily by officers from all over the world to simulate the maneuvers of the MSC fleet ships in any port of the world, under any weather condition. "Between our University and MSC Cruises continues an already active and fruitful collaboration," emphasized the Rector of the University, Antonio Garofalo, "thanks to which I am proud to have already had the valuable contribution of Leonardo Massa in our board of directors. The Parthenope University has a strong maritime tradition that, over the years, has been consolidated, offering our students important training and work opportunities in this fantastic sector. We hope to further increase the opportunities for our deserving students, thanks to the fruitful synergy established with a navigation giant like MSC and the opportunities it will offer our boys." "This visit," emphasized Prof. Salvatore Gaglione, "consolidates the relationship between the university and the prestigious shipping company interested in the research activities of the professors and the training purposes of the study program. In this last area, MSC will offer students of 'Ship Conduct' the opportunity to carry out internship activities aboard the company's ships as Deck and Engine Cadet Officers." "Our fleet is continuously growing thanks to the arrival of new ships, consequently, we are always looking for young people to be included in the crews of the new units. For us, today's youth are tomorrow's officers and, therefore, we are happy to share our testimonies with these students, offering them the concrete vision of those who already work in the field, which enriches the training they are acquiring through university studies," said Leonardo Massa. "Italy, and in particular, Campania, have a millenary maritime tradition recognized all over the world that cannot and must not be lost," stressed Marco Maresca, managing director of MSC crew service, "and these young people will contribute to handing it down to future generations. We are therefore proud to collaborate with Parthenope University, organizing these moments of training at our training center, a center of excellence where maritime personnel from all over the world are trained and updated."
